Most AI divination sites generate your entire reading with a language model. FateReading does the opposite: we calculate your chart first using traditional algorithms, then use AI only to translate the results into readable English. Here's why that matters.
The problem with AI-only divination
When a language model generates a BaZi chart from scratch, it's not calculating — it's predicting the next likely token. This leads to hallucinated stems, wrong element counts, and charts that can't be reproduced. Two people with the same birth date might get different results from the same AI on different days.
Real Four Pillars calculation is deterministic. The same birth date, time, and calendar rules always produce the same chart. That's what FateReading does.

How FateReading calculates your chart
Our calculation engine follows the same rules that Chinese astrologers have used for centuries. Here's what happens when you enter your birth date:
Solar-term month
Your month pillar is determined by the solar term (节气) your birth date falls in, not the Western calendar month. This is the traditional rule.
例: 1990-05-15 → 立夏后 → 四月
Day boundary at 23:00
The BaZi day changes at 23:00 (the "rat hour" 子时), not midnight. If you were born at 23:30, your day pillar belongs to the next calendar day.
23:00–01:00 = 子时 (early rat = next day)
Sexagenary cycle
Stems and branches advance through the 60-cycle (六十甲子). Each pillar is a real stem-branch pair from this cycle — never invented.

Nayin lookup
Your Nayin (纳音) element is looked up from the 30-pair Nayin table — a fixed mapping used since the Tang Dynasty. Not generated by AI.

Ten Gods logic
Ten Gods (十神) are derived from the relationship between your Day Master and each other stem/branch, using the five-element generation/control cycle and yin-yang polarity.

AI interpretation, last
Only after the chart is fully calculated does AI step in — to write the English explanation. The AI is given the chart as input, not asked to produce it.

How to tell if a divination site is AI-only
Not sure if a site is really calculating or just using ChatGPT? Here are the signs:
⚠️ No chart shown
If a BaZi site gives you paragraphs of text but never shows the actual four pillars (天干地支), it's probably AI-generated. Real calculators show the chart.
⚠️ No calculation rules
If the site doesn't mention solar terms, day boundaries, or the sexagenary cycle, it likely isn't implementing them.
⚠️ Different results each time
Try the same birth data twice. If you get different stems or branches, it's hallucination — not calculation.
⚠️ Vague "ancient wisdom" claims
Sites that invoke "thousand-year traditions" without showing the actual algorithm are usually hiding the fact that there is no algorithm.
⚠️ No element counts
A real BaZi chart has exact element counts (e.g., Wood 2, Fire 1, Earth 2...). If a site only gives prose without numbers, it's AI.
⚠️ Everything is "AI-powered"
If the marketing leads with AI rather than calculation, the calculation probably isn't there. AI should be the assistant, not the engine.

Is FateReading's BaZi chart calculated or AI-generated?
The Four Pillars chart is calculated using the traditional Chinese sexagenary cycle algorithm — the same method used by professional BaZi astrologers. Stems, branches, Nayin, and Ten Gods are all derived mathematically from your birth date and time. AI is only used for the optional English interpretation layer, not for the chart itself.
How is FateReading different from AI-only divination sites?
Most AI divination sites use a language model to generate the entire reading from scratch — the cards, the interpretation, and even the chart are all LLM output. FateReading separates calculation from interpretation: the chart is computed deterministically, then AI is used only to translate the results into readable English. Can I verify my BaZi chart against other calculators?
Yes. Because FateReading uses the standard solar-term month rule and the 23:00 day boundary convention, your Four Pillars should match any reputable BaZi calculator that uses the same rules. If you see a discrepancy, check whether the other tool uses the 00:00 day boundary instead — that is the most common source of difference.
Does FateReading use real solar time?
The calculation engine uses the standard Chinese calendar solar-term system for month determination. For users who provide a birthplace, we recommend also noting the true solar time adjustment, which can shift the hour pillar in edge cases near solar-term boundaries.
Is AI divination accurate?
AI is excellent at synthesizing and explaining traditional divination concepts in plain language. However, AI alone cannot calculate a BaZi chart reliably — language models hallucinate stems, branches, and element counts. The accurate approach is calculation first, AI interpretation second. That is what FateReading does.
